Setting Up Microsoft Authenticator

Quick Setup Guide |  Saf-Gard IT Support

This is a free app that secures your sign-in to your work email. Setup takes about 5 minutes and only needs to be done once.

Setup Steps

1. Download the app  — Search "Microsoft Authenticator" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and install it.
2. Start setup on your phone — Once the app is opened, instead of signing in, click on SCAN QR CODE. You will be prompted to grant access to your camera. Grant access by clicking ‘Allow Only Once’ or ‘Allow All the Time.’ 
3. Start setup on your computer  — Sign in to your work email. You will be prompted to set up the authenticator application.
4. Scan the QR code  — Once the setup on your computer has been initiated, click on ‘Next’ until you arrive at the QR code. Use the QR code scanner that you opened in the previous step to scan the QR code on the computer screen.
5. Approve and finish  — Your computer will send a test notification to your phone. Enter the two digits provided on your computer screen, tap Approve, and you will have finished your setup.

Going Forward

Each time you sign in from a new device, approve the notification sent to your phone.
